An easy DIY spring wreath, and we have a winner!

First off, please congratulate Kelly McFarlan, who won the e-design giveaway!

I am hosting Easter brunch this Sunday, and I am still in the midst of unpacking from Switzerland, but I felt like I had to start making our condo feel springy.

I made these for my friend Kim’s wedding in September 2012.

Building a color scheme for a room

First, I would like to remind you all that today is the last day to enter the e-design giveaway so get those entries in!

Now, it’s time to start getting inspired for a room refresh. Where does the inspiration for a room come from? Sometimes it’s a photo in a magazine, something you saw on Pinterest, or a piece of art, rug, or duvet cover that you fell in love with that creates the foundation of a room. Then you use that piece to build a color scheme. I used a piece of art I found at a consignment shop to serve as the inspiration for our nursery, which is in the works!

Starting with art, a rug, a duvet cover, fabric, or pillow can be tough. But Sherwin-Williams has a handy online tool that I’m mildly obsessed with to help you build a room around anything. It’s called Chip It! Just upload a photo of your item, and the tool spits out the Sherwin-Williams colors in the piece so you can decide your wall and accent colors.

Here’s the artwork I bought for our nursery.

E-design giveaway

I have been blessed with an amazing last year—living in Switzerland, traveling in Europe, pregnant with our first child. I’ve decided to spread the wealth and celebrate our return to the States by giving my services away–FOR FREE! I am running a week-long contest and giving away my e-design services for one room in one reader’s home.

What’s e-design? You don’t have to live anywhere near me to utilize my service. We work together over the phone and via email. I’ll have you take photos of the room, give me room dimensions, measure windows, and tell me the placement of doors and windows—or we can Skype or FaceTime so I get a visual. I send you a design concept plan that includes everything you’ll need for the room, including resources for the furnishings, accessories, lighting, art, paints colors, fabric samples, resources, and DIY instructions (if we’ve established that you’d like to tackle some of the projects yourself)—all within your budget.

You can see some of the completed e-designs here and here. And here are some of the projects currently underway.
